About us
The Advanced Center for Socio-Ecological Research on Environmental Recovery in the Amazon is an interdisciplinary research center focused on environmental recovery in the Amazon, integrating science, traditional knowledge, and territorial engagement to support large-scale restoration strategies.
The center brings together more than 180 researchers from 45 institutions, including universities, civil society organizations, research centers, and technical partners, working collaboratively across Legal Amazon territories.
CAPOEIRA emerged from the need to address, in an integrated way, challenges related to environmental degradation, climate change, and biodiversity loss in the Amazon.
The project also develops an integrated platform to organize and share strategic information on environmental restoration, supporting analysis, territorial planning, and decision-making.
Objectives
Integrate
Strengthen networks among researchers, communities, organizations, public institutions, and decision-makers, promoting knowledge exchange and collective solutions for Amazon environmental restoration.
Understand
Understand ecological, climatic, and socioeconomic processes related to the restoration of Amazon ecosystems, including biodiversity, carbon, forest regeneration, and territorial dynamics.
Minimize risks
Anticipate and mitigate risks associated with climate change, extreme events, and wildfires, developing analyses, modeling, and monitoring tools to support adaptation and territorial management.
Expand
Help expand the scale and effectiveness of restoration actions in the Amazon, supporting public policies, local capacity building, and data integration for diverse socio-ecological contexts.
